Wide Plank Farmhouse Table - DIY

My husband has had the same dining room table since college.  When we were married it, naturally, was adopted into our eclectic home of furniture.  That was 5 years ago.  Needless to say, we were ready for an upgrade.  Since we love building furniture together, what better upgrade than a personally custom built table?  It ended up being much easier to build than we originally thought!  I have attached a few pictures of the build design as well as the final product.  We are very happy with how it turned out!

We started with the frame.  Getting the corners square was very important to ensure the rest of the table remained square.

Then we added in 2x2 support braces, about 10" apart.

We used 2x8 boards on the top.  Sanded it and stained it with Minwax Special Walnut.  We also buffed it with a Minwax Paste Finishing Wax to give it a nice semi-glossy look.

I'm excited to eat lots of big family meals at this table!
