Oversized Wooden Ruler Growthchart - DIY

As my daughter's first birthday neared I knew I needed something to start tracking her height.  I wanted a growth chart that would fit in with the decor of our home, and would be sturdy enough to be used over and over again as our family grows.  I loved the look of the oversized rulers.  They are such a timeless but still modern look.  It turns out it was not very difficult to make at all, it just requires precision on the measurements.  The supplies required for the oversized ruler growthchart are:
  • 1 - 1x12 board (6 foot long)
  • Stain of choice
  • Permanent marker
  • Stencils (to do the numbers, unless you have very pretty handwriting)
That's it!  In total this project took about 3 hours to make.  I started the measurements at the 6 inches mark so the total height of the ruler is 6 1/2 feet tall.  I hung it using a regular picture hanging wire on the back, and ensured that it was hung 6 inches off of the ground.  It looks great in our home, and will provide years of special memories!
